Effect of Topical and Intraventricular Antibiotics Used During Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Insertion on the Rate of Shunt Infection — A Meta-Analysis

A PRISMA-compliant meta-analysis of four databases assessing the effectiveness of topical and intraventricular antibiotics in preventing ventriculoperitoneal shunt infections. The shunt infection rate was significantly lower in the antibiotic group (2.24%) versus controls (5.24%), with subgroup analysis showing no significant difference between individual antibiotic agents.
